*URGENT* Upcoming Policy Changes *URGENT*
01-12-07 12:47 PM

Dear Members,

We must remember that the internet is still in its infancy. As the electronic age continues, new laws and precedents are being set by our courts continuously regarding electronic communication.

Digital Expressions (DE) cannot assume any liability for the actions of our members. It is in our best interest to protect ourselves from any potential conflicts with the law. And as an author, it is in your interest to protect yourself.

If you have written any comments or diary entries that may be considered harassing or libelous, you put yourself and DE at risk of litigation. This especially includes any entries or comments that use the full names of others, divulge person information about others, or defame another person.

Every comment and entry written on DE is automatically copyrighted by its respective author. This includes *all* comments and entries; once written, copyright protection is granted automatically per U.S. law. Unless given written explicit permission, it may be unlawful to repost anything found on DE in your own diary or as a comment in another diary.

An official policy change will be posted to the official DE "rules" page with further information within the next several days.

With the above in mind, it may be wise to review your own diary and begin making any questionable content private. You may wish to use the "Download" feature to ensure that you have a copy of your diary, in the event that it is deleted. Once the new rules go into effect, ANYONE FOUND VIOLATING THE RULES WILL HAVE THEIR DIARY IMMEDIATELY DELETED WITHOUT NOTIFICATION OR CHANCE OF RECOVERY.

If you have any objection to these rules, please visit http://www.livejournal.com or http://www.myspace.com. Please remember that keeping a diary here is a privilege and not a right. DE continues to be a privately operated site.

We enjoy providing you with a place to write. Let's work together to protect you and ourselves and keep DE enjoyable for all.

Thank you for your understanding,
The Digital Expressions Team

UPDATE: We are primarily concerned with individuals who copy a diary entry for the purpose of insulting the original author, or other malicious intentions. Copying portions of a survey will not result in your diary being deleted.

that's kind of a good thing!
by highlander, 01-12-07 02:28 PM
Sounds reasonable to me. Good work guys, keep it up.
by kelane21, 01-12-07 02:50 PM
I noticed this message has already been bumped to the bottom of the index on the main homepage. Perhaps you might want to make it static for a while like you have in the past with other important maintenance memos? Otherwise, hardly anyone will see or read it!
by wojo, 01-12-07 05:48 PM
While I think that this is probably a good thing, couldn't you give members some warning? I've had this diary for 4 years, and I would be crushed if it was deleted forever.
by angelicbaby92, 01-12-07 06:43 PM
Sounds fair.

*thumbs up*

I agree with Wojo. Even though it's a great idea, we've all done this. We've all taken surveys from each other or posted news articles on here or pictures or something. Are we not allowed to do that anymore?
by dammitangie, 01-12-07 11:38 PM
No, I think he's referring more to defamation and harassment than just mentioning first names...I know I try never to mention last names in my journal if I can help it.
by wojo, 01-13-07 11:13 AM
Yeah he sent me a comment saying that it's really directed towards users that OBVIOUSLY are harassing someone else and copying whole entries in a derogatory manner...
by Anonymous, 01-13-07 02:12 PM
does this also include vuldar language? curious because my entries are most often used for venting
by siliconwafer, 01-13-07 02:18 PM
Vulgar language isn't illegal, so no !
by Anonymous, 01-14-07 04:20 AM
rock on
by dobby, 01-13-07 09:37 PM
Great idea...but a lot of us repost stuff like surveys and articles.

The UPDATE says:

We are primarily concerned with individuals who copy a diary entry for the purpose of insulting the original author, or other malicious intentions. Copying portions of a survey will not result in your diary being deleted.

bwaha I know why they did this
by guilts_angel, 01-14-07 09:41 PM
why do you think they made this decision da bartender???
I know I have more than likely broken those above rules so I believe I shall be downloading my blog and starting fresh from 2007.
by da bartender, 01-15-07 04:54 AM
There's been a little drama between a couple of user's journals. Ie calling someone pathetic because they were older and posting on here. She was getting harassed heavily and she wanted it to stop. drama drama and here we are with the new rule that cover's DE's ass if people here are crazy and make death threats et cetera.
by Anonymous, 02-15-07 04:56 PM
I know who youre talking about.
by eli♥, 09-19-07 02:35 PM
or maybe u guys need to open ur eyes and see that both of em are responsible, not jus one more than the other. so mani ppl play the victim card on here when they start the shit..petty bs.
by da bartender, 09-19-07 06:52 PM
None of my concern, I just observe. if people choose to put themselves at the whim of other people's words that's their weakness, not mine.
by Anonymous, 02-15-07 04:55 PM
I agree, this is good!
by bible_records, 03-09-07 01:37 PM

wat were you saying?
by babyinblack00, 06-20-07 11:44 AM
it sounds like a really good idea guys! however, i have more than one diary (i made one when my friend and i got into an argument and she kept bringing up things i had in my first diary), and at times i take my diary entrys from one and put them into my other one. So will my diaries be deleted for that??
by *sica*, 07-09-07 10:12 AM
How do I use the folder option?
by tree_hugger, 09-11-07 06:06 PM
so i cant report people? thats unfair, so now i cant be on........
by prawnage6, 11-03-07 11:51 PM
Hi
by skylark, 11-06-07 06:20 AM
If that's the case, then why are people who are guilty of that very practice still on this site? From what I saw, you deleted diaries without expressly contacting the owner to hear their take on it. Where is that fair?

Don't get me wrong, it's a good policy--unfortunately the damage has been done to many of us on this site.

I have a question.

When will new Journals be accepted? Just wondering
